One-fifth of shelters in Ukraine revealed to be unusable for intended purpose 

"The Emergency Service revealed that 20% of the shelters for protection from air and other attacks in Ukraine are not used for the intended purpose, Timur Tkachenko, the Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries, told Report.

According to him, the fund for civil defense facilities in Ukraine currently includes 61,803 shelters. By the end of the year, another 2,956 objects should be ready: “Regular audits are conducted, and the progress of work is monitored. The Emergency Service is re-accounting the existing buildings. The number of shelters may decrease, as some shelters have been found to be unusable. At the same time, the reconstruction, renovation, and placement of the doubly important shelters continue. Another 2,956 facilities should be ready by the end of the year," said the deputy minister.
