Number of COVID patients in Africa exceeds 4M

The number of people infected with coronavirus in African countries has reached 4,030,794 - an increase by 38,750 people over the past four days, according to the regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO), Report informs referring to TASS.

The number of deaths among those infected with coronavirus in the region over the past period has increased by 1,010, to 107,625. More than 3.6 million people have recovered.

South Africa accounts for the highest number of cases and deaths - 1,529,420 and 51,326, respectively. Egypt reported 11,256 deaths and 190,280 infection cases, while Morocco recorded 8,718 people fatalities.

In sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa is followed by Ethiopia (175,467 and 2,550, respectively), Nigeria (160,567 and 2,013), and Kenya (113,236 and 1,913) in terms of the number of infection cases and deaths.
