Baku. 11 January. REPORT.AZ/ The number of earthquakes in Indonesia increased significantly in 2018 and amounted to more than 11.5 thousand, Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) reported.
According to Report, the department said 7,172 aftershocks were recorded in 2017 and11,577 earthquakes of various magnitudes and depths occurred in 2018. It is noted that the number of earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 5 was 297.
Notably, the death toll or those who are missing as a result of natural disasters in Indonesia in 2018 was the highest in the last decade. Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, Head of Information Data and Public Relation Center of BNPB said the death toll was 4,231 and it is the highest in the country since 2007.
