Monkeypox cases in the UK have risen to 1,035, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said, Report informs, citing the foreign media.

79% of the cases are in London. There are 27 cases in Scotland, 9 in Wales and 5 in Northern Ireland.

The vast majority of patients are reported to be men. So far, the virus has been found in the blood of only five women living in the country. The average age of patients is 36.

There have been 3,413 laboratory infections of smallpox in the world, and one death is known. Most laboratory-confirmed cases (86%) have been recorded in Europe. The Americas take the next position on the list (11%), followed by Africa (2%), the Eastern Mediterranean (less than 1%) and the Asia-Pacific region (less than 1%).
