Media: WHO could lose up to quarter of funding if US terminates membership

The World Health Organization (WHO) could lose up to a quarter of its funding if Donald Trump, after winning the US presidential election, decides to withdraw the country from the organization, Report informs via Politico.

If the US terminates its membership in this international health organization, as Trump attempted to do during his first term, WHO could lose its largest government sponsor and contributions amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, writes the publication.

According to the American non-profit organization Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), the annual US membership contribution makes up approximately a quarter of WHO's core annual budget, with the United States providing between $163 million to $816 million to the organization in different years.

The US President has the authority to terminate WHO membership without congressional approval, provided that the organization is given one year's notice and that funding continues during this period.
