Media: Vance played key role in organizing US–Iran talks

US Vice President JD Vance played a key role in organizing talks between Washington and Tehran scheduled for April 11 in Islamabad, Pakistan, Report informs via CNN.

According to the sources, Vance assessed that several days of negotiations would be needed to consolidate the ceasefire agreement.

At the same time, Pakistani officials are hoping to persuade Vance to remain in the country longer to help advance the process, the source said.

The sources also said Iran does not trust US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who led previous rounds of talks with Tehran and is part of the current negotiating team.

According to the information, both Iranian and American delegations have already arrived in Islamabad for the talks, although the exact start time has not been announced.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran and carried out airstrikes on several cities. On the same day, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes.

In response, Iran launched missile strikes on Israeli territory and attacked US military bases in countries across the Persian Gulf.

Iran, the United States, and their allies reached a two-week ceasefire agreement on April 8, 2026.
