France considers Turkey an important partner of Europe in security and migration and sees signs from the Turkish leadership to normalize relations, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with France 5 TV channel on March 23 evening, Report informs.
“The EU, if it wants peace, must create a single security architecture, and for this, we must build a long-term dialogue with Russia and Turkey, since these are great powers,” he said.
At the same time, the French leader warned against taking an overly tough stance on Ankara, as this could push it away from the EU countries in the future.
“Turkey is a partner in the settlement of the migration crisis: they accepted much more asylum seekers from Syria than other countries. They have about three million refugees. We must cooperate with Turkey on the migration issue,” Macron said.
