Spain sees 'exceptional' snowfall, 400 roads closed

Heavy snow from Storm Filomena left more than 400 roads closed and trapped people in their cars overnight in Madrid, Spain, on January 9.

This clip, posted on Twitter by Alvaro Ruiz, shows people having a snowball fight in Plaza de Callao in the center of Madrid.

“Neighbors gathered spontaneously to start a snowball fight between strangers,” Ruiz told Storyful.

Local news reported that the snowfall was the biggest in half a century, as Madrid City Council urged people to stay in their homes due to the “emergency situation.”
