Beginning March 18, Lithuania has tightened control over feed grain imported into the country from Russia and other "high-risk" countries, the Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture said.
Report informs via Interfax that each wagon or means of transport with grain intended both for the Lithuanian market and for export through the Klaipeda port will be checked. The product will be checked for pesticide residues, mycotoxins, metals (lead, cadmium).
In the near future, new decisions will be made regarding even more strict control and then the origin of the grain transported through Lithuania will be verified.
For now, according to the new rules, only fodder grain will be inspected, and food inspection will begin later.
