The EU foreign ministers agreed at an extraordinary meeting that Tehran cannot have nuclear weapons and that Brussels is ready to contribute to de-escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said at a press conference following an informal meeting of foreign ministers in connection with the latest events in the Middle East, Report informs.
She noted that over the past five days, Israel and Iran have exchanged blows, and this has increased the risk of the conflict in the region expanding.
"In this regard, the ministers called on all parties to respect international law, exercise restraint and avoid actions that could get out of control," she stressed.
Kallas added that all participants in the meeting agreed on the need for urgent de-escalation, and that diplomacy is the solution to prevent it, in which the EU is ready to play its role.
"Iran cannot have nuclear weapons," she added.
