ISW: Russia's long-range PGMs running out

The Russian Defense Ministry released a video of Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles being fired at land targets. This ground-attack role may suggest Russian shortages of other types of long-range precision-guided munitions, Report informs, citing the Institute for the Study of War.

On April 30, both sides of the war announced that Odessa had come under fire with Oniks missiles. However, the anti-ship missile hit the airport, not the city's naval targets. Analysts at the institute believe that this may indicate a shortage of other types of high-precision long-range missiles in Russia.

During the night, the Washington-based Institute wrote on its Twitter page that Russia had begun talking about the use of anti-ship Oniks. Both sides, for example, said that such missiles were fired at Odessa airport on April 30.

Other military analysts also share the same views. Michael Coffman, Director of the Russia Studies Program at the Center for Naval Analyses, tweeted a few hours before the ISW: "I'm increasingly interpreting these as a sign they're low on other types of long-range PGMs. This is an expensive system to use in its secondary role like this."
