An Iranian citizen has been detained in Armenia for trying to send nearly 230 grams of opium to Australia, according to Report, which cites the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.
The prohibited substance was discovered by officials from the State Revenue Committee's anti-smuggling department, working in collaboration with National Security Service operatives. During an inspection of a parcel at the post office in Kapan, a dark brown mass resembling opium was found concealed within the linings and hidden compartments of two leather bags.
The Iranian suspect has been arrested on charges of drug smuggling, and a criminal case has been initiated.
