Greece opens probe against Athos monks opposed to vaccination

The Prosecutor's Office of Thessaloniki has opened a probe against the monks of Mount Athos, who oppose vaccinations against coronavirus, Report informs, citing the Greek edition of Vimo Orthodoxy.

The move follows a report from Athos hieromonk Joseph who said monks urge Christians not to get vaccinated

Based on these allegations, the head of Thessaloniki Prosecutor's Office requested an investigation to identify those involved and to determine whether there had been any spread of false information and related deaths.

The applicant, Hieromonk Joseph, will be interrogated during the proceedings to name specific individuals and indicate when and what exactly they said. Only after that the monks can be held criminally liable.
