German defense minister says Berlin should increase military spending

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has stressed that his country needs to increase military spending, Report informs via TASS.

“Security does not come for free. War can only be prevented by those who prepare for it,” Pistorius said during a speech in the Bundestag.

At the same time, the minister noted that funding for military spending is going in the right direction. According to him, €72 billion will be allocated for the development of the armed forces, which is the largest amount in the entire history of the Bundeswehr.

At the same time, the minister noted that the NATO target for defense spending of 2% of GDP will be achieved in 2024. In his opinion, it is obvious that the defense budget will have to be constantly increased even after the €100 billion special fund for the Bundeswehr is exhausted. What is needed is a “reliably planned budget,” the minister concluded.
