French insurance companies to pay record compensation for drought

The consequences of the drought in France this year could cost insurers a record 2.4 billion euros, Agence France-Presse (AFP) said, citing the report of the French Federation of Insurance Companies, Report informs via TASS.

Moreover, as experts say, such payments are only associated with damage to buildings located in communes affected by drought and disaster modes. Damage to agriculture is covered by a separate insurance item.

According to Federation President Florence Lustman, global warming has made drought a severe threat.
