Farmers dissatisfied with the policies of the French government will begin a “siege” of the capital at 14:00 Paris time (GMT+1), Report informs via the Figaro newspaper.

"The French capital will be locked down from 2 pm on Monday after several trade unions called for a 'siege' of the city," the paper said.

The French National Federation of Agricultural Trade Unions (FNSEA) and the Jeunes Agriculteurs trade union plan to block seven highways leading into the city.

“There could be from 1,500 to 2,500 tractors at the blockade sites around Paris,” Quentin Le Guillou, deputy secretary general of Jeunes Agriculteurs, was quoted as saying by the publication.

FNSEA and the union announced that they intend to organize a complete blockade of Paris to prevent the supply of any goods to the capital. The protest action will last for at least five days. They also plan to organize a “siege” of two key Parisian airports - Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and Orly - as well as Europe's largest food market, Rungis, south of the city. Activists considered the measures proposed by Prime Minister Gabriel Attal insufficient and out of proportion to the scale of the farmers' protests.

Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture and Food Marc Fesneau promised to announce new measures to support farmers within the next two days. He said that this week he will go to Brussels to discuss at the EU level the possibilities for simplifying bureaucratic procedures for farmers.
