Energoatom: Explosion at Zaporizhzhia nuke plant may lead to large radiation consequences

A potential explosion at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will lead to large radiation consequences, President of the Ukrainian "Energoatom" Petro Kotin told the East Europe bureau of Report.

"Reconnaissance gives us information that the plant is mined and we also know that it was mined all the time so far, there were Russian invaders and they mined both the perimeter of the power plant, and the entrances to the plant and everything else. And now there is information that their cargo cars and other military equipment, including explosives and a military warehouse, this is a very big danger. If something happens to all this material, there will be large radiation consequences, these may be temporary consequences, but at the same time there may be greater consequences," he said.

He noted that the population is now very worried about this because of the recent explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station.

"This showed that Russia does not stop at anything, and they can arrange a man-made disaster also at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," Kotin added.
