According to Johns Hopkins University, the US confirmed 41,556 news COVID-19 cases and 337 related deaths over the past 24 hours.

The previous day's figures were 38,845 and 264, respectively.

A total of 2,590,582 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the US, including at least 126,000 virus-related fatalities, according to JHU's tally.

The totals include cases from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and other US territories, as well as repatriated cases.

The United States has the highest number of infections and coronavirus death toll, ranking sixth in terms of deaths per capita and 11th in the number of cases per capita.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China's Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
