Coronavirus now under control in Norway: Health minister

Norway’s measures against the virus have significant positive effects, Minister of Health Bent Høie said in a press conference on Monday, Report says citing foreign media.

Høie confirmed that the so-called reproduction number had dropped below 1, which means that each corona case in the country infects less than one person.

“This means that we have the corona infection under control,” the minister said.

Before Norway’s shutdown of society, the reproduction rate was 2,5.

The minister makes clear that the number of people hospitalized for corona infection is likely to drop if the measures are continued.

“We now have the upper hand on the virus,” he underlined and added that the situation must continue in the same positive direction.

Norway has confirmed 5,866 cases so far, including 78 deaths and 32 recoveries.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to 209 countries and territories since then.

To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 1,352,000 globally, resulting in 287,699 recoveries and 75,300 deaths.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic
