The leader of the joint list of the Socialist Party and the Place Publique party in the European Parliament elections, Raphael Glucksmann, was pelted with eggs and paint at a May Day demonstration in the city of Saint-Etienne in southeastern France, Report informs via France Bleu radio.
Glucksmann planned to march through the streets of Saint-Etienne in a column of trade unions celebrating Workers' Solidarity Day on May 1. However, a group of aggressive students demanded that he leave the procession.
Because of the attack, the politician had to end his participation in the rally early.
In a comment to journalists, he noted that among the attackers were activists of the leftist party La France Insoumise and the Trotskyist party “Permanent Revolution”.
