The European Commission recognizes that it does not intend to stop the migration flow to Europe, but only to look for ways to better manage it, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos said at a briefing in Brussels, Report informs citing TASS.

"We must be honest: the phenomenon of migration has been and will remain in the future. It's not about how to stop it, but how best to manage this phenomenon," Avramopoulos said.

He stressed that, in particular, as a result of Turkey's operation in Syria, the situation may worsen again.

Summing up the work of the European Commission on migration track, he said that for the period from 2016 to 2019 the European Commission has made settlement on a quota system within the EU about 55 thousand workers, which he called "a significant achievement".

According to the European statistical service - Eurostat, the number of registered illegal crossings from external borders of the European Union exceeds since 2015 2.5 million .
