The Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles virtually celebrated 28 May- the Republic Day of Azerbaijan with the participation of prominent US political and public figures.

Report informs, citing the Consulate, that the event, broadcasted on social networks, featured congratulatory messages from political figures of the Western US states and influential religious and community leaders.

Speaking after the anthems of Azerbaijan and the United States, Azerbaijan's Consul General in Los Angeles Nasimi Aghayev informed about the establishment of the first republic in the history of Azerbaijan and its achievements.

He noted that Azerbaijan, which regained its independence in 1991, has become one of the fastest modernizing countries in the world. The Consul General stated that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the Glorious Azerbaijani Army liberated our occupied lands last year, restored historical justice, and restoration and construction work based on smart technologies in those areas started.

According to the Consul General, Azerbaijan is ready for regional peace and has taken significant steps to this end.

In a congratulatory video message to the Consulate General, California Sen. Josh Newman, Arizona Sen. J.D. Mesnard, Utah Sen. Gene Davis, Washington Senate Speaker (2015-2017), Pierce County Councilmember Pam Roach, California Orvaye Mayor Farrah Khan, and San Diego City Council Chairman Stephen Whitburn (Stephen Whitburn) noted that ADR was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world and granted suffrage to its female population. The political figures spoke about Azerbaijan's current independent development, friendly and partnership relations with the United States, the strengthening of ties between California and other Western states with Azerbaijan.

David Harris, chairman of the American Jewish Committee, one of the largest Jewish organizations in the United States and the world, and Rabbi Abraham Cooper, deputy chairman of the prestigious Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles, which has 400,000 members, and Sinai, one of Los Angeles' largest synagogues. The synagogue's chief rabbi, David Wolpe, the most influential US rabbi according to a Newsweek poll, Susan Azizzadeh, President of the Federation of Iranian American Jews, the world's largest organization of Iranian Jews, and FACE, one of the leaders of the Asian community in the United States. Hyepin Im, head of the organization, Johnnie Moore, President of the Congress of Christian Leaders, Mitch Silberman, founder of the Jewish Republican Alliance; Member of the Baha'i Council of California Randolph Dobbs, Chairman of the Council of Pakistan Adnan Khan, former President of the Assembly of American Turkish Associations Ergun Kirlikova, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-California Friendship Association Kimiya Mammadova and other officials sent congratulatory videos to the Consulate General. They spoke about the culture of tolerance, the traditions of multiculturalism, the peaceful coexistence of different peoples and religions in our country, and the fact that Azerbaijan is an example to the world in this area.

The event also featured performances of Bayati Shiraz mugam from the Kharibulbul music festival held by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in Shusha, as well as pieces of music performed by various national minorities. In addition, Polad Bulbuloglu's song "Aman-Aman ayriliq" was performed by Imamyar Hasanov, a well-known Azerbaijani kamancha player living in California, in a new arrangement.
