The Rwandan genocide was a French operation in 1994, Charles Kayonga, Ambassador of Rwanda in Ankara (Non-Resident Ambassador of Azerbaijan), told the Turkish bureau of Report.
While speaking after the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, the ambassador said that 30 years ago, genocide became an ideology in some African countries: "In 1994, the Tutsis suffered a terrible massacre. Young, old, men, women, babies and even the unborn were killed in unimaginable ways. This horror can be called a collective initiative carried out by the politicians of the time."
Kayonga emphasized that although there are free media and wide social networks in the world, this terrible genocide is still not brought to the agenda: "There is so much free and social media in the world, but the genocide is not brought to the agenda. The perpetrators of the genocide are conducting a denial campaign."
The ambassador also pointed out that Rwanda is currently a supporter of respect for human rights and the restoration of peace in the world and the region: "We are on the side of peace and development. Our demand, our struggle is that no more genocide occurs anymore. We are against all kinds of crimes against humanity, racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia and extremist ideology."
