UN Secretary General welcomes ceasefire agreement in Nagorno-Karabakh

UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the news of the complete cessation of hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone from November 10, 2020. The parties reached an agreement with the mediation of Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

Report says, Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said: "The Secretary-General welcomed the agreement to cease hostilities. We are very grateful to the Russian authorities for their positive role in this matter. Hopes that the suffering of the civilian population will end create a sense of relief.

The civilian population issues, humanitarian access, and saving human life have always been at the center of our attention.

Dujarric said that the UN High Commissioner representatives for Refugees would assist the parties in fulfilling the agreement's terms under their mandate. Negotiations are underway on this issue.

According to media reports, the agreement stipulates that refugees and IDPs must return to Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent areas under the supervision of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
