Canada reiterates position on Karabakh conflict

Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne has expressed his country's position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, by addressing a letter to the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC).

"Canada's position is still based on its strong and consistent support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs to achieve a negotiated settlement of the conflict," said the Foreign Minister, Report says citing Lragir.

"Our position does not determine the outcome of this process. Canada agrees with the Minsk Group that the conflict cannot have a military solution. Any resolution on the settlement should take into account the Helsinki Final Act," the minister emphasized.

On April 1, the Canadian Embassy in Turkey, in a post on its Twitter account, expressed its support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.

"Canada supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and doesn't recognize the so-called "elections" held in Nagorno-Karabakh on March 31. Such "elections" undermine efforts, including by the OSCE Minsk Group, to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," the embassy tweeted.

The Canadian Ambassador to Turkey is accredited to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkmenistan as well.
