"There are over 600 illegal parking supervisors in Baku. All of a sudden, they have disappeared. Over the last two days, one cannot come across them on streets and avenues of the capital. They are controlled by certain forces and were told not to come to the illegal parking lots," transport expert Elmaddin Muradli told Report.

In his opinion, ASA parking lot in Baku, Chinar parking lot, run by the former police chief, retired colonel Nizami Gojayev, and people posing themselves as Karabakh veterans are engaged in illegal parking.

The traffic rules expert believes that controllers of the parking lots collect monthly about AZN300,000 from drivers.

It is possible to channel this amount of money into the YASHAT Foundation. Instead of forgers, who make money by pretending to be the Karabakh war veterans, we can provide jobs for our Karabakh veterans there. We can also transfer the proceeds to the YASHAT Foundation and support the treatment of veterans and help with the solution of their social problems. Why should that amount of money go to someone's pocket? This is outright corruption," he said.

The State Traffic Police has recently launched raids in Baku over illegal parking.

In addition, a draft amendment to the Law on Road Traffic has been prepared. The bill envisages increasing fines for illegal parking. In addition, those who organize illegal parking would be fined.

The bill was discussed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and State Building on January 25 and recommended to the plenary session of the spring session of parliament.
