Thirty accused persons were on the local wanted list for crimes related to human trafficking, involvement in sexual acts, maintaining immoral establishments, involving minors in acts against public morality, and illegal distribution of pornographic materials or items in 2024, according to Azerbaijan's National Coordinator for Combating Human Trafficking.
Report informs that the document was submitted for discussion at a joint meeting of the Milli Majlis’s Human Rights and Law Policy and State-Building committees.
The annual report noted that 16 of these individuals, including 3 human traffickers, were detained and handed over to criminal prosecution authorities.
Currently, the international search through Interpol channels continues for 11 persons accused of committing human trafficking crimes.
The document emphasized that necessary information about these individuals' countries of hiding and other relevant details have been obtained, and requests have been sent to appropriate authorities for their extradition in accordance with the requirements of bilateral and multilateral mutual legal assistance treaties.
In addition, 44 cases involving the use of information technologies (WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, Telegram social networks) were also detected, resulting in the initiation of 4 criminal cases under Article 144-1 (human trafficking), 6 cases under Article 243.1 (involvement in prostitution), and 1 case under Article 182 (extortion by threat) of the Criminal Code.
