Journalism is not just a profession, but a lifestyle, Jamila Alakbarova, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Media.az information portal, said during her meeting with students of Report Media School.
According to Report, Alakbarova emphasized that journalism creates great opportunities for societal development and change.
"If someone came to journalism without passion, they simply won't last here. It's very difficult to work continuously hoping for something. You should know that you're doing this work not for praise, but to benefit society," she explained.
She also addressed the topic of fake news: "This issue is easily resolved in Azerbaijan. If the information is about local events, the relevant authority is contacted. For foreign news, it's sufficient to indicate the source and state that verification is ongoing."
Jamila Alakbarova graduated with honors from Baku Slavic University's Faculty of Journalism and Azerbaijan Philology in 2012. She worked as a journalist, chief correspondent, and political columnist at Echo newspaper until 2018. She joined Media.az as a journalist in 2018, served as editor-in-chief from 2022 to 2023, and has been the Director and Editor-in-Chief since January 7, 2024.
In 2020, she was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
