Andrew Schofer is the US State Department's senior adviser on negotiations in the Caucasus, Report informs that the US Embassy in Armenia said to the request of the Armenian editorial office of Radio Liberty.
"His duties in this position also include leading the US delegation in international discussions on the Georgian-Russian conflict," the embassy said in response.
The statement issued by the embassy notes that "the United States remains committed to promoting a peaceful, democratic and prosperous future for the South Caucasus region".
The American embassy also said that they welcome the recent efforts of Armenia and Azerbaijan for direct interaction at the level of leaders and foreign ministers. They added that commitment to the peace process and flexibility on both sides, as well as direct bilateral cooperation, are key to achieving lasting peace in the region, adding that "the United States stands ready to assist Armenia and Azerbaijan in these efforts".
Earlier this week, Andrew Schofer met with Armenian officials in Yerevan.
