Svante Cornell: Armenia needs new strategy

"During the Armenian occupation of Karabakh, the world could not see what was happening here. Now we are in Shusha, and we see everything with our own eyes," said Svante Cornell, director of the Institute for Security Policy and Development Policy (Sweden), Report informs.

According to the expert, this region has future:

"In the future, we will be able to see another Caucasus, another Karabakh. Because it is possible to normalize relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We see that."

Speaking about the separatist mood of the Armenians, Cornell said that he had repeatedly stated that the separatist spirit in the USSR began with Karabakh:

"Today, Ukraine witnesses the consequences of such separatism. Everyone knows how Azerbaijan suffered from separatism. This is a well-known strategy - you use separatism to weaken the country."

According to him, it is impossible to change Armenia's position immediately, it will probably take several years: "But it seems that they are beginning to realize that what is happening in Armenia is not in favor of the country. Armenia needs a new strategy."
