One year passes since liberation of Gubadli

Today, October 25, is the first anniversary of the liberation of Gubadli city from the Armenian occupation.

Report informs that on October 25, 2020, President of Azerbaijan, Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev said in his address to the nation that the city of Gubadli and the villages of Padar, Afandilar, Yusifbayli, Chaytumas, Khanlig, Sariyatag, and Mollaburhan were liberated from occupation.

Along with Gubadli city and seven villages, Birinci Alibayli, Ikinci Alibayli, Raband, Yenikand, Govshudlu, Sofulu, Dag Mashanli, Kurdlar, and Hovuslu villages of Zangilan District were cleared of the Armenian invaders.

The glorious tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was hoisted in the liberated territories.

The battles for Gubadli are considered to be one of the most successful operations that resulted in the victory of the Azerbaijani Army in the Second Karabakh War.

During the Patriotic War, which began on September 27, 2020, a crushing blow to the enemy forces in the eastern Jabrayil District and successful short-term operations in the southern Zangilan District allowed the Azerbaijani Armed Forces to clear Gubadli.

In the course of the fierce battles for Gubadli, several servicemen of the Azerbaijani Army rose to the peak of martyrdom. Among them is National Hero Shukur Hamidov, who hails from Gubadli.

According to the relevant decrees signed by Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev on December 29, 2020, and June 24, 2021, a group of servicemen was awarded the medal For the liberation of Gubadli. They were awarded for their personal courage and bravery in participating in the combat operations for the liberation of the district.

On December 23, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the liberated Gubadli District. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief raised the glorious Azerbaijani flag in Gubadli.

Since April of 2021, several military units of the State Border Service have been operating in the district near the state border with Armenia.

The Gubadli District was established in 1933 as an administrative-territorial unit. The district, located on both banks of the Bargushad River, borders Zangilan, Jabrayil, Lachin, Khojavand, as well as the Gorus and Kafan regions of Armenia. The largest settlements are Gubadli city, Khanlig, Mahmudlu, Dondarli, Mahruzlu villages.

Gubadli was occupied by the Armenian armed forces on August 31, 1993. Ahead of the occupation, the number of the district population was 29,903. The population consists of Azerbaijanis. They lived in 93 villages and in the district center, Gubadli. Most of them lived in villages. The average population density was 37 people per square kilometer.

At present, the population of the district totals 38,615 residents and is temporarily settled in 41 cities and districts of the country. The vast majority of Gubadli residents live in Sumgayit and Baku and in the Absheron District.

The Gubadli District Executive Authorities, other structures, organizations, and enterprises, which restored operations, are based in Sumgayit.

During the occupation, Gubadli's wealth was looted by the enemy, infrastructure was destroyed, and settlements were vandalized. Houses and historical monuments in the region were completely destroyed and trees were cut.
