French historian: Macron's statements on Nagorno Karabakh is fundamental error

The recent statements of French President Emmanuel Macron about the escalation Nagorno Karabakh conflict, at the very best, is a fundamental error of appreciation of the situation, French historian Maxime Gauin told Report.

"This is another error after the error in Libya and the error in the eastern Mediterranean. He did it because of Turkey. But such an error cannot be confused with opposition to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Macron repeated what other countries (including all the members of the Minsk group) repeat since 1992, namely that the conflict must end by "negotiations."

He also added that "there cannot be any negotiation with Prime-Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan after what he said and did."

Earlier, Macron addressed Armenia and the Armenians, assuring that France "will play its role" and will not allow further escalation in the region.
