Korotchenko: Presence of armed Armenians in territory of Karabakh is source of provocation

"For two years now, Armenia has not fulfilled its obligations regarding the withdrawal of armed groups, which are a source of provocation and instability, from the territory of Azerbaijan," Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the Natsionalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine Igor Korotchenko said, the Russian bureau of Report informs.

He said that the official Yerevan undertook the complete withdrawal of all armed units and regular troops from the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan: "After the death of the Azerbaijani soldier, the "Revenge" operation was carried out to minimize the future negative consequences of the terrorist/sabotage activities of the illegal military units of Armenia in the territory of Karabakh."

"We hope the incident will be local and not lead to a larger scale escalation. However, Russia should also urge Pashinyan to stop demagoguery and start practical activities related to withdrawing all Armenian armed units. Otherwise, it can lead to global, uncontrollable consequences and threaten the lives and safety of the local population, Russian peacekeepers, and Azerbaijani citizens," the expert believes.

According to him, it is necessary to politically force Pashinyan to fulfill his obligations following the tripartite declaration.
