Hafiz Safikhanov: Azerbaijan is among top 3 countries with highest level of mine contamination

In 2020, Azerbaijan was in the top 10 countries in terms of mine contamination, and according to the latest static data, the country is already in the top five, or even three, Hafiz Safikhanov, Chairman of the Public Association "Azerbaijani campaign against mines", told reporters, Report informs.

According to him, unfortunately, Azerbaijan cannot get an adequate response from the international community on the mine issue.

“To date, 301 people have become victims of mines, of which 55 are civilians. Mines are a big problem for Azerbaijan, and we are trying to solve this problem at our own expense,” he said.

Safikhanov noted that in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, there are about 1 million or even more mines and unexploded ordnance.

“We must draw on international experience and strengthen awareness-raising measures to address the mine problem,” he added.
