The Global Journalism Council (GJC) has issued a statement on the death of two Azerbaijani journalists as a result of a mine explosion in Kalbajar.

According to Report, the statement reads:

"On June 4, 2021, a vehicle carrying members of the film crew hit an anti-tank mine on the road in the Susuzlug village of the Kalbajar region. As a result, Azerbaijan Television (AzTV) operator Siraj Abishov and Azerbaijan State Information Agency (AZERTAJ) correspondent Maharram Ibrahimov were killed. The names of our colleagues who were martyred while performing their professional duties were written among the heroes of the glorious Karabakh Victory of Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan has freed its lands which were under occupation for nearly 30 years. After a 44-day war, a ceasefire agreement was signed on November 10, 2020. Even though seven months have passed since the ceasefire, Armenia's savagery continues. These events are taking place in front of the world's eyes and repeatedly reveal the Armenian brutality in the region. We strongly condemn the actions of Armenia, which continues to kill innocent people with treacherous attacks and prepared traps.

"May our dear colleagues Maharram Ibrahimov and Siraj Abishov rest in peace! We offer our condolences to their families, the peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and our colleagues, and we want to emphasize that we will never forget them."
