If Armenia accepted the delineation of borders by signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, its borders with Turkey and Azerbaijan would re-open, giving it greater flexibility and options in its economic relations, Taras Kuzio, British professor at the National University of Ukraine 'Kyiv-Mohyla Academy,' told Report.
"If Armenia were to accept the former Soviet republican boundaries as its international border with Azerbaijan, including Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan, there would be major benefits from economic growth and increased trade," he said.
Kuzio also noted that for three decades, Armenia has relied on Russia and Iran for trade, which has been a disaster leading to corruption, stagnation, and out-migration.
"Two out of five million Armenians live in Russia," the professor said.
