Expert: Armenia will try to conceal destabilizing steps from EU mission

Armenia will try to conceal its steps aimed at disrupting the normalization of relations with Azerbaijan from the mission of the European Union (EU), Stanislav Pritchin, senior researcher of the Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidate of historical sciences, told Report.

Since the decision to send the EU mission was made unilaterally, without a mandate from Azerbaijan, its function will be to carry out border patrol service only from the Armenian side. It is hard to record violations when you are only on one side of the border, which means that all violations committed by Armenia will go unnoticed. Even if there are steps aimed at destabilizing, Armenia will try to conceal them from the mission. Objective and transparent conditions for a peaceful solution are not created here,” he said.

According to him, in order to strengthen its position among the European countries during the negotiations, Armenia agreed to deploy the mission without consulting the other parties of the tripartite declaration - Azerbaijan and Russia.

Pritchin added that the EU mission has no influence on the delimitation of borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the opening of transport corridors, and other processes.
