Bryza: Azerbaijan will continue counter-offensive until it regains lands

"Azerbaijan will continue its counter-offensive until it regains a politically significant part of its territory."

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of state and former co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Matthew Bryza at an event of the international organization HORASIS dedicated to addressing the profound economic, political, and social upheavals caused by COVID-19.

The session of the event entitled "the Caspian Region: leading a joint leadership," moderated by Murat Seitnepesov, a businessman and organizer of the international platform Caspian Week Davos, raised several serious issues not only of an economic nature but also of a political one due to active military operations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Experts expressed their opinion on what is happening and how they see the further development of the region.

"Azerbaijan and Armenia are at war again; it's not just a conflict; it's not just that everything will settle down quickly. These are severe military operations. I think Azerbaijan has a good chance to keep this territory. So, at some point, I believe that in a few days, weeks, we will see that the fighting will subside..." Bryza stated.

In his opinion, the key players in the region will be Turkey and Russia, but not the United States, "since the United States left the region not only under President Trump but also under President Obama."

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, Vice Prime Minister of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue, former President of Latvia Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, Vice President of the National Assembly of Afghanistan Fawzia Koofi, former President of FIATA Babar Badat, and others were among the guests of honor at the conference.
