ANAMA: Mine problem - one of most topical for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s priorities until 2030 include the restoration of territories liberated from occupation and the return of internally displaced persons there, representative of Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov said at the international conference “Humanitarian Demining and Sustainable Development Goals” held in Baku, Report informs.

The head of ANAMA stressed that the mine problem is one of the most topical for Azerbaijan, since the territories liberated from the Armenian occupation are heavily contaminated with mines.

He noted that Azerbaijan is constantly working on demining these territories. Suleymanov added that since November 2020, about 25,000 hectares of territories have been cleared of mines and 23,000 mines have been cleared.

He said that the conference taking place April 1 in Baku is an important platform for the exchange of views and experience in this area. In particular, he also noted the contribution of the UN to mine clearance in Azerbaijan.
