Total Lunar eclipse to last about 15 minutes

The total Lunar eclipse, a natural phenomenon when the Moon comes maximally closer to the Earth, is expected today. Report informs, citing foreign media, that the total eclipse coincides with the full Moon this time. Moreover, this time the Moon will pass the point of the orbit that is closest to the Earth. Such a combination of facts occurs once in around 12 years.

The total eclipse will last only about 14 minutes and 30 seconds. The northern edge of the lunar disc will locate virtually on the border of the shadow remaining much brighter than the rest part of the Moon. According to the statement, the external parts of the shadow will probably be colored in bluish shades due to the light absorption by the atmospheric ozone in the northern polar areas of the Earth.

The Moon will approach the Earth as close as 362,000 kilometers. The eclipse will occur at 03:19 pm Baku time. It will be visible on the western coasts of North America, in the Pacific Ocean, Indonesia, Australia, and the eastern coasts of Asia.
