Astronomical spectacle: Earth reaches perihelion, offering breathtaking views of the Sun

Astronomy enthusiasts and stargazers, mark your calendars! On January 4, 2025, our planet Earth will be at its closest distance to the Sun, a phenomenon known as perihelion. This cosmic event will allow observers to witness the largest apparent size of the solar disk throughout the year.

Report informs via Russian media that, according to the Moscow Planetarium, Earth will be approximately 91.4 million miles (147.1 million kilometers) away from the Sun on this day. This is about 3 million miles (4.8 million kilometers) closer than the average Earth-Sun distance of 94.5 million miles (152.1 million kilometers).

Astronomers also predict an exciting year for celestial events, with two lunar eclipses on March 14 and September 7, and two solar eclipses on March 29 and September 21. Additionally, Mars will reach its closest approach to Earth on January 16, a phenomenon known as Mars opposition, offering the best viewing conditions for the Red Planet.
