Today, the aviation sector accounts for about 2% of global emissions, but its share will rise to 22% within the next 20 years if no measure is taken, Simon Hocquard, Director General of the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO), said at the World Aviation Summit in Baku, Report informs.
"The aviation industry has long been a vital component of global connectivity, supporting economic growth, promoting cultural exchange and bringing the world closer together. However, this progress has also come with environmental costs. Taking this into account, the aviation industry has set a goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Also, implementing more efficient flight routes can contribute to reducing carbon emissions. In this regard, India can be cited as an example. Until recently, 40% of the airspace in this country was reserved for military operations. Thanks to the negotiations between civilian and military users, important steps have been taken in this direction, which allows us to save 15 minutes of time, reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions," he said.
