Azerbaijan plays a vital role in the development of the Middle Corridor for East-West cargo transportation, Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon said during the Azerbaijan-Slovenia Business Forum in Baku.
"This route could become the fastest and most direct connection between Asia and Europe. This morning, we had the opportunity to discuss the issue with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, including Slovenia’s important role in the heart of Europe and our Port of Koper — the northernmost port on the Adriatic — which presents clear potential for expanding logistics ties," she said.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR or Middle Corridor) is an international transport corridor linking China and European countries via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The association managing the route provides essential information support, helps streamline administrative procedures, fosters a competitive environment, and ensures maximum efficiency for participants, including countries not geographically located directly along the corridor.
Cargo volume along the TITR grew by 62% in 2024, reaching 4.5 million tons. In 2025, it is projected to reach 5.2 million tons, of which 4.2 million tons will pass through member countries of the TITR. This includes 2.5 million tons of dry cargo (96,000 TEU) and 1.7 million tons of oil. By 2027, the corridor's capacity may reach 10 million tons.
