Eco-activists bring Frankfurt Airport to standstill by gluing themselves to runway

Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe's busiest travel hubs, was forced to suspend operations on Thursday morning after eco-activists from the Last Generation movement staged a daring protest by gluing themselves to the runway. The unprecedented action caused widespread disruption, with over 50 flights diverted to other airports.

According to Report, which cites Flightradar, a flight tracking service, the number of affected flights continues to grow as the protest unfolds.

A police representative at the airport told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the activists managed to breach the airport's perimeter fence and successfully disabled all four runways.

This incident follows a similar protest at Cologne Bonn Airport the previous day, which also brought operations to a standstill.

The Last Generation activists released a press statement demanding that the German government support the development and signing of a legally binding international agreement to phase out fossil fuels by 2030.

The group warned that similar civil protests are planned at airports in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, the United States, and Norway.
