Azercosmos: Permanent glaciers in Azerbaijan decreasing year by year

The area of permanent glaciers in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus in Azerbaijan is decreasing with every passing year, said Ismat Bakhishov, the leading specialist in remote sensing of the Space Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (Azercosmos), at the event held on the occasion of the completion of the 'State Program for the development of remote Earth observation services through satellites for 2019-2022', Report informs.

"A decrease is also observed in snow-covered areas in the country's mountainous districts. While bigger areas were covered with snow in 2017, a decrease was observed in 2018-2019. The indicator rose in the years that followed but a decline in snow-covered areas is observed in mountains beginning from 2022," he said.
