Azerbaijan sees decline in cargo transportation by sea

The volume of cargo transported by sea in Azerbaijan exceeded 4.125 million tons in the first half of 2024, marking an 8.6% decrease year-on-year, Report informs, citing the country’s State Statistical Committee.
Notably, 48.7% of the cargo consisted of oil products.
Sea ports in Azerbaijan handled loading and unloading operations for just over 6.852 million tons of cargo. Among these, 80.1% or just under 5.488 million tons were transit cargo.
As of July 1, 2024, there were 303,800 tons of cargo remaining in the ports.
Additionally, the number of passengers transported by sea for the reporting period increased by 27.6% compared to the corresponding period in 2023, reaching 13,400 people.
