Aktau Port launches dredging to boost Middle Corridor capacity

Main dredging operations have begun at the sea port of Aktau, which will help increase transport volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR/Middle Corridor) by up to 30%, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.

The project will also create conditions to reduce maritime freight transport costs by approximately 10–15%.

The work is being conducted due to the ongoing decline in Caspian Sea water levels, which affects navigation conditions. Plans call for extracting around 1.3 million cubic meters of soil and increasing the port basin's depth to 6–7 meters.

The implementation of the project will boost the port's throughput capacity and navigation safety, while also helping to attract investments into port infrastructure.

Dredging operations are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.
