Azerbaijan continues to actively work on the technical modernization of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Astana, Aghalar Atamoghlanov, said in an interview with Report's Kazakh bureau.
According to the diplomat, the Middle Corridor is gradually revealing its potential and is one of the important projects for expanding regional cooperation.
The ambassador noted that TITR's competitiveness is growing, as evidenced by the numbers. In particular, in 2023, the volume of transportation along the Middle Corridor amounted to 2.76 million tons, which is 65% more compared to 2022. And in the first 10 months of 2024, the total volume of cargo transportation reached 3.8 million tons, which is 68% more than in the same period of 2023. Container transportation for January-October amounted to 46,300 TEU, which is almost three times higher than last year's figure.
"Azerbaijan has already established and successfully operates a modern transport and logistics infrastructure for TITR, but at the same time, work continues on its technical modernization. In the near future, the capacity of the Baku International Sea Trade Port will increase from the current 15 million tons to 25 million tons per year. And the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will increase from the current 1 million to 5 million tons per year," he added.
