Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) and the World Bank (WB) have discussed the current state of cooperation, as well as the importance of expanding relations, Report informs, referring to the ADY.
The discussions took place during a meeting between ADY Chairman Rovshan Rustamov and a delegation led by Charles Cormier, Infrastructure Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank.
The sides exchanged views on the WB's participation in the second phase of works at the Baku International Sea Port, its technical support for ongoing projects, and potential investment opportunities.
The ADY Chairman stated that container transportation along the Middle Corridor has recently increased, with positive dynamics recorded in freight traffic between China and Azerbaijan in 2025. Last year, 392 block trains were received, which is 37% more compared to 2024, he added.
According to Rustamov, these results were positively influenced by ADY's initiatives, including the involvement of China Railway Container Transport Corp. Ltd. (CRCT) in the joint venture Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd, established with the railway authorities of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia to develop the Middle Corridor.
It was also emphasized that the integration of the Baku International Sea Port into ADY played an important role in improving the efficiency of international transportation last year. In 2025, a record volume of more than 107,000 TEU containers was handled at the Baku Port, representing a 40% increase compared to 2024.
Regional Director Cormier, in turn, stressed the WB's interest in deepening cooperation with ADY, noting that ADY's work on developing the Middle Corridor opens new opportunities for future partnership.
