AzerGold starts reclamation work at gold mine for first time

AzerGold Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) has started reclamation work at the Agyokhush-1 gold mine in Dashkesan district, Report informs referring to the company.

The company, which has always given priority to environmental protection in production, operations and other areas of activity, has started technical and biological rehabilitation works at the first completed mine.

As part of the first phase of the reclamation plan approved by the State Ecological Expertise Agency of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, technical reclamation works were carried out in the area of ​​the empty rock storage, fertile soil layer was restored, and terraces were created on the slopes. Then, biological reclamation works were carried out and landscaping works were launched in the area. As part of the next stages of the project plan, it is planned to continue work on the restoration of lands damaged during production in other parts of the mine. This is the first reclamation project on the country's completed gold mining area in the mining sector.

As part of the reclamation work launched on June 5 - World Environment Day, a community campaign was organized at the mine site with the participation of more than 50 employees of AzerGold CJSC and the company’s contractor. As many as 600 Eldar pines, 200 kilograms of alfalfa and 10 kilograms of walnut seeds have been planted in the area where the fertile soil layer has been restored, and agro-technical care has been started for tree and plant seeds.

In accordance with the Corporate Social Responsibility policy of AzerGold CJSC, in addition to socio-economic measures to fully support the local population in the regions where production is carried out, continuous mass measures to protect the environment, including community work, tree planting and other landscaping is organized.

To date, more than 10,000 trees and shrubs and greenery have been planted on an area of more than 15 hectares of the Chovdar mine. In addition, more than 100,000 seeds have been planted for future oak seedlings to be used for landscaping on an area of ​​about 40 hectares, and permanent maintenance is provided in accordance with agro-technical regulations.
